Gates County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of 2000, the population was 10,516. Its county seat is Gatesville.
History
The county was formed in 1779. It was named for General Horatio Gates, who had commanded the victorious American forces at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777.
